Koenji Awaodori: August 25, 2012, Tokyo, Japan – Around 12,000 dancers pile out onto the streets of Koenji over the two days of the annual Awaodori, one of Tokyo’s most energetic festivals, held annually on the last Saturday and Sunday of August. About 188 groups perform Awa dance to live music and parade around the shopping district, located on both north and south side of JR Koenji Station. Koenji Awaodori is the second largest of all the Awaodori festivals held throughout Japan, following the one in Tokushima. It highlights the summer of Tokyo as one of the three largest summer festivals of the area. (Photo by Francesco Libassi/AFLO)
