June 9th, 2011, Tokyo, Japan – Tokyo Electric Power Co., operator of the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, revealed on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, that the ill-fated station suffered power outages at its No. 1 and No. 2 reactors with lights cut off in the units’ central control room. The company, known as TEPCO, said the blackout did not affect its water injection operation to prevent the crisis from worsening and no evidence of abnormalities was found in data on the No. 2 reactor after power was restored about three hours later. The plant in Fukushima Prefecture, some 200km northeast of Tokyo, has been crippled since the March 11 quake and tsunami, which had knocked out its power, triggering the country’s worst nuclear crisis.
