The building includes new commercial facilities such as the high-end Daimaru Deparment Store and the Tokyo Station Hotel, which will opened on October 3. The Tokyo Station brick Gothic building was originally constructed in 1914. In 1923 it was damaged by the Great Kanto Earthquake, and it was also heavily damaged by bombing raids in 1945.
