December 27, 2011, Tokyo, Japan – U.S. Ambassador to Japan John Roos (L) and his wife (R) take a bite out of a Wendy’s hamburger during the re-launch celebration of its fast food restaurant in the Omotesando district part of Tokyo. In December 2009, Wendy’s did not renew its franchise agreement with its former franchisee for Japan which resulted in the closure of its 71 restaurants. Wendy’s and Higa Industries, a successful food importer and distributor based in Tokyo, signed a joint venture agreement to develop and operate Wendy’s restaurants in Japan.
