Japan’s Power CrunchJapan’s Power Crunch電力使用制限令発動 15%削減へ「節電の夏」

Lights are dimmed down and a fewer electric boards is operational than usual at Tokyo Stock Exchange on Friday, July 1, 2011. The Japanese government started imposing power restrictions on companies, emporiums and other major electricity users to cope with the energy crunch following the country’s nuclear crisis at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, some 210km northeast of Tokyo, crippled by the March 11 earthquake and ensuing tsunami. Factories, office buildings, universities and department stores in the Tokyo area must reduce electricity consumption 15 percent less than 2010. (Photo by Natsuki Sakai/AFLO)
