Ozawa broke away from the ruling Democratic Party of Japan to protest the consumption tax hike sought by Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda. The 70-year-old stalwart, who will lead the new party formed by 49 fellow lawmakers, vowed to implement administrative reforms as well as to take measures to combat prolonged deflation, adding his party will aim to reduce Japan’s reliance on nuclear energy to zero in the future in his speech during the launch.
