The six major festivals in the Tohoku region, comprising Sansa Odori in Iwate, Nebuta Matsuri in Aomori, Tanabata Matsuri in Sendai, Hanagasa Matsuri in Yamagata, Kanto Matsuri in Akita, and Waraji Matsuri in Fukushima, are performed together at Tohoku Rokkon Festival for the first time to overcome the many harmful rumors and atmosphere of excessive restraint, to recover the visiting population in order to revive the regional economy, and accomplish reconstruction after the March 11’s earthquake and tsunami.
